The BO-007 bollard is a response to the challenge of redistributing public spaces to favor pedestrians. It delimits and protects pedestrian zones, ordering and beautifying the urban environment. Its design is a blend of aesthetics and functionality, with a slim yet robust structure that features a radial cut-out pattern. This pattern, visible from all angles, adds an attractive element to the bollard.
What sets BO-007 apart is its unique properties. Its tubular steel contour sports a reflective strip that becomes prominent in low-light conditions, enhancing visibility and safety. The bollard is designed to blend into any urban setting, playing the role of both protector and mediator in the everyday urban scene.
The realization of BO-007 involves the use of carbon steel tube with a three-dimensional laser cut-out pattern. The tube is galvanized and coated with dark gray polyester powder to withstand the natural environment. An engineering-grade reflective strip is placed inside the pattern cut-out to make it visible from any angle and prevent vandalism.
The design process of BO-007 involved extensive research and analysis of the behavior of drivers and pedestrians, as well as a study of existing bollards in the city. The designers, Rodrigo Vázquez, Diego Briseño, Joaquín Briseño, and Christian Aranda, noted that over time, bollards lose their reflective strip due to weather or vandalism. To counter this, the reflective strip in BO-007 is housed inside the steel body, preventing its detachment.
The design of BO-007 faced the challenge of creating an accessible product with little or no maintenance, that does not require any electrical installation, and contributes to the city's trend to regain public areas for pedestrians. The result is a functional, aesthetic product that can be adapted to any city setting, thanks to its slender body and suitable proportion.
BO-007 is a testament to BKT-Design's commitment to innovative design solutions. The bollard's unique design and functionality have earned it the Golden A' Street and City Furniture Design Award in 2019, a prestigious accolade granted to marvelous, outstanding, and trendsetting creations that advance art, science, design, and technology.
